During the month of Ramadan, we as JAOR through our Feed A Family: Ramadan Edition 2 project committed to feeding a target of 250 needy muslims making sure the donation gets to those who need them the most in this holy month. As the organization mainly relies on crowd funding strategies to raising funding for such projects. We opted to utilize social media as medium for crowding funding for a target contribution of nearly Ksh 1.25M.

JAOR sought to utilize Instagram Live to raise money for the Ramadan initiative. The live session themed “Charity: A Source of Salvation in Ramadan” was moderated by Abdirahman Jama (a JAOR member) who was joined by Abdurrahman Ishaaq (lead Imam at Parklands Mosque). As they discussed about the religious benefits of providing iftar for someone who is fasting and how acts of charities in this blessed month of Ramadan are more rewarding. With the Instagram Live session lasting only 40mins, we had an outreach of up to 180 viewers as Abdirahman highlighted how viewers could  contribute to this noble initiative.

All together, we surpassed our target of 250 families. We were fortunate enough to provide for 282 families across Kenya.

As part of our crowdfunding strategies for the Feed a family Ramadhan Project, JAOR held a two-part webinar on the topic of “Maximizing Your Ramadan At Home” moderated by Abdirahman Jama, a JAOR Member on zoom. The first part of the webinar was held on the 18th of April, 2021 and the second part of the webinar was held on 2nd May, 2021. Over the two-part webinar, we were able to lineup 5 experienced speakers who touched on various essential topics that would benefit a believer during the holy month of Ramadan. Some of the speakers and topics were:

  • Sheikh Ibrahim Nur – Ramadhan, the month of Quran.
  • Sheikh Mohamed Issack – Charity in the month of Ramadan.
  • Dr Ibrahim Farah – Importance of Saum.
  • Ustadha Aisha – Forgiveness in Ramadhan
  • Ustadha Batuli – Lailatul Qadr

Over 100 people registered for the two-part webinar with each segment lasting over two hours. Through a poll that we held during the closing remarks, 100% of the attendees found the webinar beneficial and would like JAOR to hold such an event again. Abdirahman Jama thanked everyone that attended on behalf of the organization and their continuous support and donations.
