This Eid Project was started by fundraising using the strategy of gifting a smile to the orphans by selling branded masks, keychains and T-shirts 2 weeks before Eid. The proceeds went fully into buying gifts for the orphans. It started on 1st August 2020 where most members of the organization met to pack and sort the gift items in South B. Immediately after only one team including some members and volunteers proceeded to An Nisaa Children’s Home in Karen to distribute the Eid gifts to 24 orphans. This time we managed to gift 167 orphans in total. The gifts included; Crisps, Cookies, Juice Boxes, Hats/Scarfs, toys and Jewellery.
The next day we set our journey to Mama Fatuma Children’s Home in Eastleigh where we gifted the 85 orphans. We spent some quality time with them during the gifting by blowing balloons, taking pictures, running around with them all in remembrance to them that it was a celebration day and that they were not alone. We then proceeded to Al Nur Madrassah to go and gift the 50 orphans. The moment we reached we found them being gifted with meat by a different organization and this really gave us joy. This time we went the extra mile to spend our time with the children at Al Nur Madrassah by having lunch with them. We managed to cater for biryani which the kids and their staff loved. After the lunch we gifted every one of them. To see the smile on their faces was a goal achieved.
After gifting the orphans in Kibera, we finalized the day by having cake with them before we left and as always they ended up gifting the organization a cake as a token of appreciation. We then delivered 8 Eid gift packages in Eastleigh to their guardian and that marked the end of our project for the day.
